2014 JIIP Symposium in the European Parliament

The 2014 JIIP Symposium entitled “Major Innovations, A European Perspective” was held on 17 November 2014. The event was related to the “Major Innovations” study that JIIP is currently carrying out for DG RTD and took place at the Microsoft Executive Business Centre in Brussels, as part of the 6th European Innovation Summit organised by Knowledge4Innovation. The JIIP Symposium featured high-level speakers from academia, industry, EC and OECD and of course the JIIP members. Keynote speeches were delivered by Henry Etzkowitz from Stanford University and Dominique Guellec from the OECD. Three case studies from the above-mentioned Major Innovations study were presented: LED, Stem Cells and In-vehicle Navigation Systems. The speakers and participants analysed and discussed the contribution of European research programmes to major innovations, with a discussion on preferred models for Europe. The aim of the Symposium was to further the debate and awareness on the European approach to contributing to major innovations.
